Original U.N. building gets new life

Lillibridge Advises North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System on Reuse of Historic Property for the Center for Advanced Medicine

LAKE SUCCESS NY, Feb-28 2007 — The Center for Advanced Medicine is unique in many ways. It is housed in a building that was the home of the original United Nations from 1946 to 1951. Featuring huge skylights and high ceilings, the one story structure was later converted to a defense plant. The project is also noteworthy because it is one of Long Island's biggest commercial leases ever, comprising 483,000 square feet in a building that is almost a quarter of a mile in length.

Lillibridge Advisors recently completed its consulting project with the North Shore-Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Health System for the Center for Advanced Medicine.

"Our disease-centered mall concept is a one-of -a-kind facility here on Long Island and will certainly better position us within our market," says Robert Dubicki, Senior Vice President Ambulatory Care, North Shore-LIJ Health System. "Lillibridge gave us an expert independent validation on this important project. Their physician survey and market research helped us to understand the medical office building supply and demand in the Long Island area."

"We were very excited to work with North Shore-LIJ," says Lillibridge Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Todd Lillibridge. "They are one of the leading health systems in the nation and certainly one of the most forward-thinking. The Center for Advanced Medicine is an extremely innovative project."

Lillibridge Advisors met with North Shore-LIJ executives to evaluate and assess their current facilities and the ambulatory services as a whole. They also made recommendations on how to proceed to next steps, and suggested healthcare programs that worked well together, based on national industry trends.

"We really enjoyed the challenge of helping convert this huge, vacant factory space into a beautiful new healthcare facility," says Scot Saperstein, Director of Lillibridge Advisors. "The team at North Shore-LIJ took a look at what was happening in the national marketplace and decided that this unique property made it possible to both enhance new programs and to consolidate existing ones. Lillibridge helped North Shore-LIJ see the big picture and develop a plan for the future."

Located at 450 Lakeville Road in Lake Success, Long Island, the Center for Advanced Medicine currently houses centers for outpatient surgery, imaging and oncology. New programs will be added in ongoing phases.
