Hopefully, the sign of things to come
I really hope that a report out of Dayton, Ohio, is the sign of better times to come for healthcare and healthcare real estate projects.
| The report comes from Dayton-based Kettering Health Network, which has six hospitals in the Dayton area and recently announced that it is moving forward with plans for a seventh. The system is now planning to move forward on a $75 million to $100 million hospital in growing Greene County, in the eastern suburbs. Several months earlier, the project was put on hold because of the economy, according to system officials. It was at that time when Kettering officials also announced that the network was halting all capital projects except for two that were already under way and which had received private funding. At the time of that announcement, the provider also announced that it was eliminating 55 jobs system-wide in order to cut costs. Well, I certainly hope that as we move forward and the economy starts to improve - there are certain to be bumps along the way - that's we at Healthcare Real Estate InsightsTM are able to report more and more stories in which systems like Kettering are deciding to move forward on projects that had been postponed. Sure, most of our readers are involved in medical office buildings, but more hospital construction projects means more MOBs and more opportunities for everyone in the industry. | John Mugford Tags: construction, |
