Banner Desert Chooses Lillibridge as Developer for Major Expansion

Convinced that first-class office space was critical to the success of its ambitious growth plan, Banner Desert Medical Center recruited Lillibridge to construct and manage a showpiece medical office building on its Mesa, Arizona campus. Even before breaking ground on its current $320 million expansion, including a new children's hospital, "we wanted to use the building to help us build priority clinical programs, such as pediatric specialties and cancer specialties," explains Bruce Pearson, chief executive officer of Banner Desert, a member of the Banner Health System.

Building Strategic Services

Lillibridge's high-end medical office building, with excellent customer service, has helped the hospital meet its goals. Working closely with the medical center, Lillibridge has leased space to physician practices that focus on pediatric surgery, pediatric oncology, pediatric urology and pediatric gastroenterology. The new building also has attracted physicians that specialize in adult oncology and cardiology.

"Upscale, high-quality adjacent office space has helped build these strategically important services," Pearson says.

Collaborating to Succeed

During the design and development phase, Lillibridge met some specific requirements from the hospital. Since the new facility was being erected on a former parking lot next to the hospital, Banner Desert wanted the medical building to include enough parking to replace the spaces lost as well as handle new tenants and patients. Because the new building is connected to the hospital, Banner Desert also wanted patients and physicians "to feel like they were in the hospital," says Pearson. So Lillibridge added an atrium and other features to create a seamless Southwestern look and feel.

"Lillibridge understands our business strategy and is working with us to achieve it," says Pearson.
